Mitch Schmit

Co-owner/Co-Founder/Operator

Born and raised near Waterloo, IA, Mitch has always loved the outdoors. He moved to the Cedar Rapids area, where he received his AAS degree in horticulture with an emphasis on landscape design and construction. He started his career in 2008 working with a hardscape company where he developed 12 years of experience, beginning as a laborer and then eventually moving to crew leader. This is where he met his business partner, Blaise. As their friendship grew, they started tackling small weekend landscape jobs. As the quality of their work spread and the weekend jobs grew bigger, they decided to take the leap, and S&B Scapes was formed in 2021. With 16 years of hardscaping and landscaping experience, Mitch has an eye for attention to detail and a passion for helping clients bring their vision to life by creating quality, custom outdoor living spaces that will provide years of memories. Mitch enjoys hunting, fishing, hiking, and spending time with his family and friends outside of work.

Blaise Birch

I'm Blaise Birch- Co founder, owner and operator here at S&B. I was born and raised on the Big Island of Hawaii, In a little town called Honoka'a. I moved to Cedar Rapids in August of 2009 right after high school, to attend Kirkwood community college. Majoring in Communications- Media. Taking a summer job at a local landscape company, I fell in love with working outside and using my hands to build. I made a solid friendship with a coworker- my now business partner Mitch. After years of side jobs and doing great quality work for ourselves, we knew it was time to take it further, and form a legit business. Making S&B my pride and joy, I love designing and building clients' outdoor dreams, turning them into a reality.

When I'm not working I enjoy my hobbies which include golfing, watching or playing baseball, fishing, spending time with my family- My beautiful wife Emily, and our three kids Corbin, Jolie, and Isla. Also traveling back home to Hawai'i as much as possible.
